You need some part of the world in OSM .xml format. The best way is to download one of the ready snapshots listed in the [http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Planet.osm OSM Wiki]. Don't choose the entire planet, but a reasonable sized map. A 132 MB .osm.bz2 works fine here for example.

Depending on the size of the map and the speed of your computer, the map generation will take between a couple of minutes and some hours. Once done, gosmore itself opens the map in a new window you can close. The map file you are looking for is gosmore.pak.
