Introduction

KDE Pim Krush Day 2 will take place on Sunday, June 8th 2008. We will coordinate the day from #kde-bugs on irc.freenode.net, so if you are not already in that channel, please join it.

The aim of the Krush day is to discover as many bugs as possible in KDE PIM applications so they can be fixed before the final release of KDE 4.1.

Requirements

You don't need any programming experience to help out with Krush Days, but you will need a recent svn trunk version of KDE. Information on setting up trunk KDE 4 can be found here.

Workflow

First select an application you would like to test. Then, go to that application's section below on this page. Add your name and svn revision number to the list of testers for that app. List any bugs you find below on this page. Make sure you check if someone has already listed the same bug before you list it. If the bug is already listed, add a comment below it saying you have reproduced it and any detailing any other information you might have. If you have a backtrace for a crash, please put that backtrace in a pastebin and place a link to it in your description of the bug.

noframe

Warning
Do NOT use rafb.net/paste as it expires after 24 hours. Use pastebin.ca instead.

To test an application effectively, you should first try and do everyday tasks with it. Then try doing more obscure things. Also, you can pick a feature that you don't normally use and try it out. Remember that if there is more than one way to accomplish a given task, test all the ways, and make sure they all work properly. If you are very familiar with an app, try testing for issues you've had with it in the past, in case they are still present or have regressed.

Some application specific tips are given in the sections below.

  • Krop Kontact ruins the toolbars position (#1): Akregator standalone: http://tinyurl.com/4lb9wb // embedded Akregator: http://tinyurl.com/5eeyuo If you change the active element then come back on akregator, the toolbar will reappear on the right border (same behaviour with Korganizer & Kjots)
  • Krop The Kmail "Create To-Do" button has no effect when kmail is embedded in Kontact
    • Volker Fixed in revision 813654.
  • Krop Help/About kontact and Help/About kontact/License show a copyright 2001-2004
  • Glenner maintoolbar in kontact does not appear. The kontactui.rc file does not get installed. Adding "install( FILES kontactui.rc DESTINATION ${DATA_INSTALL_DIR}/kontact)" to CMakeLists.txt fixes this here, but i am not sure if this correct since there must be a reason this line got removed recently..
  • gkiagia Undo is always enabled and pressing undo if there is nothing to undo pops up a message that tells you "there is nothing to undo". Wish: disable undo if there is nothing to undo.
  • gkiagia Todo list and journal cannot be removed from kontact's left panel.
  • gkiagia I want to dock kontact to the system tray. I can say it is not so clear how to do it, but actually it is possible to have kmail's and akregator's icons on the tray. kmail's icon works but akregator's doesn't keep kontact to the system tray; kontact closes if I hit the close button from the window manager and akregator's icon is on the systray. Also, if kontact is on the systray using both kmail and akregator's icons, clicking the akregator icon does not popup kontact (and vice-versa, clicking akregator's icon while kontact is visible, does not hide it).

  • Crash when clicking on the "Inbox" folder of my IMAP account just after creating it with the first start wizard. Backtrace at http://pastebin.ca/1028716. Notice that the server uses Maildir, not mbox. After a restart of kmail it works now. Earthwings
    • IMAP layer has changed substantially, and since we cannot reproduce this, closing. (Grundleborg and tmcguire).
  • The first start wizard seems to have added the SMTP server twice. Earthwings
    • FIXED. tmcguire
  • Per default I don't get any new mail notification: kmail.notifyrc has Actions=None for new mail and the systray is not show per default. Earthwings
    • These are both intentional behaviour. tmcguire
  • Clicking on the "Searches" folder brings up the standard "Welcome to kmail" widget. It would be nice if one would be directed to the "Find Messages" widget in some way. Earthwings
  • I think the "Search" button should be on top in the "Find Messages" widget, not the "Stop" button. Maybe both could even be the same button, they should be mutually disabled anyway? Earthwings
  • "Switch Application Language" is listed in the Help menu. I think it should be in Tools, if it should be there at all. Earthwings
    • FiNeX it is the default position for all KDE4 apps.
    • This is set by kdelibs, not kmail.
  • "Switch Application Language" should resize when adding a new fallback language, or start with a larger default size. Earthwings
    • This dialog comes from kdelibs -- TMG 18:39, 6 June 2008 (CEST)
  • Kleopatra Self Test Result shows a message with tags (para, application, icode) for the "GpGConf (Configuration) installation" item in the "Proposed Corrective Action" section. Earthwings
    • fixed now. tmcguire
  • Kleopatra startup height is too small. Earthwings
  • Kleopatra fails to import my S/MIME X.509 Certificate: "An error occurred while trying to import the certificate /home/kde-devel/thawte.p12: Decryption failed". I can import that certificate in Thunderbird. Earthwings
  • I can select my OpenGPG key for encryption, but not for signing: It's not listed for selection. Kleopatra says it's fine for signing, and I use it in other applications for signing. Earthwings
  • "Check Messsages" does not seem to trigger the new messages event: The number of mails in the systray increases, but I don't get a popup. Clicking on a folder that has new messages (IMAP) triggers the event though. Earthwings
  • New message : View > All fields. Comboboxes don't show immediately. They show up on next "new message". -- gemegik
    • Already fixed. -- TMG 18:39, 6 June 2008 (CEST)
  • In custom searches, next/previous toolbar buttons not working. -- gemegik
  • Enabling the "out of office reply" through sieve (which my server does not support), I got some error messages (fine so far). Later I found kio_sieve in the process list, CPU usage 100% for some hours. Earthwings
  • Encoding problem in searches names in french (saved in utf8, displayed as iso-8859-15) -- gemegik
  • In message edition : "edit > remove quote characters" only works for the first line of a selection. -- gemegik
  • Menu item "help > about kmail" and "help > kmail introduction" change icon when hovering. Same for systray. -- gemegik
  • Krop Settings/security/S-Mime tab is fully greyed even if gpgsm is detected
    • Krop Solved after installing gnupg2
  • Krop Chiasmus detection returns (when not detected) : The file /usr/local/bin/chiasmus doesn't exist or is not executable. Doesn't it look in all directories in $PATH ?
  • Right-click on a message from a ML -> "create filter" -> "filter on mailing list" is disabled. Right click on the message again, and the option appears. In the "Message" menu, the "filter on mailing list" option is never enabled, AFAICT. Philrod
  • After starting KMail, the text "Starting..." stays in the status bar indefinitely. Grundleborg
    • If, for example, you select "Local folders" in the sidebar, then click on the link to "documentation" in the main view, the status bar changes to "Opening URL..." and stays at that even after the URL has been opened and then closed. Grundleborg
      • Fixed those two cases in r818405. --TMG 16:13, 8 June 2008 (CEST)
  • "Ham" and "Spam" toolbar buttons are enabled even when no emails are selected. Grundleborg
    • Fixed in r818362
  • If I select Tools->Anti-Spam wizard, the bottom line of text in the dialog that opens (starting "Sorry, no spam detection tools...") does not wrap, so at the default dialog size, it gets cut off after the word "found". If you resize the dialog, more of the line becomes visible, but it doesn't ever wrap. Screenshot of the bug. Grundleborg
  • gkiagia View->Headers setting is not saved in the mail windows. I open the mail in a new window, set the header, close it, then reopen it and the default header is shown again. There is no option to set this from the configuration dialog too.
  • gkiagia Attachments are reported with the wrong size. I have a testcase here where a photo of 3.2 MB is displayed as 4.3 MB. This happens with any attachment but it is more visible with big sizes. Contact me to forward you the testcase if you want.
  • FiNeX Template parsing doesn't consider "%CURSOR" on forward.
  • Krop When minimized in the systray, restoring kmail will bring the window on the first desktop (expected : on the current desktop)

  • Missing icon "Followup to Newsgroup" in the toolbar, Lemma
    • I propose using the mail-reply-all icon [patch], Lemma FIXED
  • Layout problems on config dialog Settings -> Reading News -> General and Settings -> Posting News -> Composer if the settings dialog is sized to its minimum size and if using Oxygen. Lemma</s>
    • Works fine using Plastique as style. Lemma
    • The Reading News -> General settings dialog is just too big vertically. Maybe reordering the "Article List" section to span two columns would be an option. Lemma FIXED
  • Layout problems in the "Add new NNTP server" dialog (screenshot) when using Oxygen, works with Plastique. Lemma
    • This is NOT a knode bug but either an oxygen or a Qt one. Lemma
    • It's a Qt one. Currently fixed in qt-copy. Lemma
  • Missing icon for nntp servers in the list in Settings -> Accounts -> Newsgroup Servers, Lemma
    • Icon is set to "server" instead of the proper "network-server" [patch], Lemma FIXED
  • It's very confusing to have Settings -> Identityand Accounts -> Newsgroup Servers -> Edit... -> Identity. There's no indication General Identity settings will override per Server Identity settings if none are configured. Lemma
  • When launching an external editor on composing the message/button locking the internal editor is not layout properly (Screenshot). Lemma FIXED
  • Selecting "Start External Editor" launches the editor but knode doesn't detect when the external editor is being closed (I'm using kwrite). There doesn't seem to be an automatic way of getting back the edited text into the knode composer either. Lemma FIXED
    • On closing the editor only the first line of text is copied back to the composer Lemma FIXED
  • On clicking the "Kill external editor" button the editor disappears but the internal editor displays previously coloured text (eg. for quoted parts) using the standard text colour. Proper colours are restored on focusing the internal editor. Lemma
    • On clicking "Kill external editor" knode crashes if the editor is still running, backtrace, [proposed patch], Lemma
    • the patch also handles destroying the composer (by closing the window while the external editor ist still running) though my solution seems a little clumsy. Lemma
    • JakubS provided a better [patch] Lemma FIXED
  • The main toolbar has a right-arrow for "Next Unread Article" and an arrow pointing left for "Next Unread Thread". This is pretty confusing (especially in standard config they point at each other). Lemma
  • When composing a new post or posting a followup I get two buttons to toggle in the toolbar, one being "Send News Article" the other being "Send Email" but they can't be toggled (can be clicked though). It would be better to not show or disable buttons that don't do anything. Lemma FIXED
  • knode crashes when deleting a post from within the composer (eg. a draft), backtrace. Lemma FIXED
  • if printing with fancy headers there's a strange visual error on the right border of the header, kind of like an extra "white line", printed pdf, Lemma
  • if selecting multiple posts it isn't clear which of the posts gets printed (I got the impression all of the selected ones were printed but it seems to print the one shown in the preview pane), Lemma
  • In "Standard headers" or "all headers" mode the header name seems to stick too close to the header content. This might be a style decision but I would have expected a whitespace in between, screenshot, Lemma
  • I'm not sure which rules are used to layout the status bars but it looks strange (screenshot) and if too small truncates information it would have had enough place to show (screenshot), Lemma
  • The column for "unread messages" gets its header truncated on showing it even if there would be plenty of space to fully show it, screenshot, Lemma
  • When clicking "Next Unread Thread" if there is no such thread the folder is switched to "Local Folders". I would have expected the "Next Unread Thread" button to be disabled in such a case. Lemma
    • Actually it's possible to phrase this more general: If you click on the "Next Unread Thread" toolbar button and if there is no next unread thread in the current account, the folder view switches to the next top-level folder, be that the next account or "Local Folders", Lemma
  • "Watch Thread" and "Ignore Thread" are not context sensitive. If you selected a watched or ignored thread and want to disable watching or ignoring you have to select "Watch Thread" or "Ignore Thread" again. This is unintuitive and would be better made a context-sensitive toggle. Lemma
    • I guess this is actually meant like that as it's based on scoring the articles (setting lowest score/settings highest score). Lemma
  • Revoked messages appear in the article list but can not be viewed. screenshot, Lemma
    • This seems to only hold true for messages whose header has been loaded but body hasn't. Lemma
  • Searching messages using the search dialog shows found messages in the main window's article view. On closing the search dialog this list is reset to show the folder's messages. This makes it hard to browse through found articles on small form-factor display. Lemma
  • The toggle action View -> Show/Hide Threads changes its label additionally to its toggle state. I think stylewise it should be one or the other but not both (I'd opt for changing the toggle state and not changing the label). Lemma
  • I couldn't figure out what Groups -> Reorganize Group is supposed to do. The manual says "Rebuilds the article view by using the configured sortings" but that doesn't really make it clear either. Lemma
    • Yeah, I know about hard- and string-freeze, but I'm running out of bugs I'm finding :-) Lemma
  • In the settings there's various descriptive text to help with certain placeholders that the user can use. Some of them are verbatim and some are shown as a tooltip (if the user presses Shift-F1). It would be gould (and would make some dialogs smaller) if all such helping labels were tooltips: Lemma
    • Reading News -> General -> Date Display -> Custom Format (Tooltip)
    • Posting News -> Technical -> Header (Verbatim)
    • Posting News -> Composer -> Reply (Verbatim)
  • In Settings -> Accounts -> Mail Server the tab should be called "Mail Server" (without the SMTP). Using sendmail for sending mails is more or less a "Hidden option" which is something that involves trying to find out. It would be nice to have means to choose which mechanism to use like kmail does. Lemma

  • Bug: when loading the full site in the preview pane (advanced option) and scolling and article with the mouse whell, scroll goes out of page boundaries and the preview pane only displays garbage then. -- gemegik
  • Bug: When I hide the 'total' and 'not read' columns from the feed list, they reappear at next startup. -- gemegik
  • Bug: Feed favicons don't stay between sessions, they only appear when fetching the feed. -- gemegik
  • Regression: In 3.5, akregator printed "$feedname ($unread_count)" as the feed title if the 'total' and 'not read' columns were hidden. -- gemegik
  • Regression: Doesn't follow the konqueror preferences for smooth scrolling (active in akregator while disabled in konqui). -- gemegik
  • Krop Settings/Archive/"limit feed archive size to..." doesn't accept values > 99 (same thing for "delete articles older than...")
  • Krop Settings/Archive/"keep all articles" and "disable archiving" buttons is always unchecked when you open settings.
  • Krop Settings/Advanced : the "Configure" button is always greyed whatever choice you make.
  • Med When a new feed entry is received, it it contains an apostrophe in the title, it will be displayed as '. It works when marking a message as unread too. If i restart akregator, the apostrophes are displayed correctly. Images that illustrate the problem receiving a new entry and after having clicked on this entry.
  • When opening an article in a new tab, ctrl+w does not close it. Med
    • One liner patch. Link sent on #kontact but i put it here too in case it would be lost. Med 03:15, 28 May 2008 (CEST)
  • When opening an article in a tab, if the page contains an error, a small red bug is displayed at the bottom of the screen. Unfortunately they are not removed when a tab is closed. I think the expected behaviour would be that the bug is present only in relation to the active tab (therefore no bug would be displayed if there are bugs in inactive pages). Med
  • When sorting articles after Date, new articles of are showing between Yesterday and Thursday, see here. -- andy_
  • When toggling View Modes ( Normal -> Combined -> Normal ) the feed preview list becomes empty. However does change back on clicking on another feed and returning back. See here -- FilledVoid
  • Marking an article with a shortcut does not work (ctrl+I for important, ctrl+U for unread, etc.). It works when right-clicking and selecting in the menu though. Med
  • (Usability) When opening, "Feeds" is very narrow compared to the other fields, or at least it is narrow enough that I can't see what any of the default feeds are. I figure this is probably the most important field, but at first I didn't realize it was something I wanted to be reading.Blauzahl
  • gkiagia (Usability) When opening a page in a new tab, the new tab opens after the web server has responded. However, if the web server doesn't respond, the tab will not open immediately but only after a few minutes, showing a timeout error. That confuses users as they think they didn't click on the link or that akregator is broken. Solution: open the new tab before negociating with the remote server.

  • FiNeX On the calendar views (month/day/week) after selecting a range, if you start type a new event is created. You can do this only one time, after you have to close/restart korganizer for repeat this behaviour.
    • FiNeX Moreover on 3.5 what you typed were used as event title, this doesn't happen anymore.

  • FiNeX "Edit reminders" dialog: the offset column text is between "<html>...</html>".
  • FiNeX "Edit event" file dialog: "Calendar:..." label too near to "Categories" label. It is confusing.
  • FiNeX "Manage templates" dialog: if you have zero templates and you click on "apply template" the "new" button is disabled.

  • A lot of menu items (most?) are missing when Korganizer is run stand-alone, but they are there when using kontact to browse the korganizer parts. talavis
  • Opening korganizer stand-alone will open only the part last selected in Kontact, and it's impossible to show any toolbars or anything (related to the above bug?) talavis
    • FiNeX It is probably related to that bug. Currently both issue seems fixed in trunk.
  • create new event, change start time to "7am", hit "ok". i get a window saying "please specify a valid start time, for example '04:18 am', and then the whole event window closes, dropping all my information. This should just let me continue to edit the event, unless i decide to press "cancel" instead of "ok". Also, "7am" and "7pm" should be recognized as times, IMHO. Doviende

  • create new event, enable "time associated", set the start and end time, then make it a new template by going to "manage templates" and pressing "new". Then go make another event and apply this template...it will enable "time associated" for you, but it won't set the times. Doviende
  • in events, "19:00" is not recognized as a time, forced to use only "07:00 pm" Doviende

  • severe bug in dates: create a new event, enable "time associated", click on the "end" date field and press the up-arrow. notice that the "08" for the year will now say just "8", and it actually means the year "8" instead of "2008". if you hit "apply" now, it'll say that your end time is before your start time. You can not fix the field back to 2008 without cancelling the event entirely and starting over again. Doviende
    • do the previous action, then click on "start date" field and press up-arrow. start date will now be 2000 years back too, but look at the end date now. it will have an additional 2000 years subtracted, and it will say "-1993" for the year. Doviende

  • Jtamate Create a new note, then in preferences make it rich text, when the toolbar in the bottom of the note is not big enought to have all the icons, press in the >> icon, then in "text font" ("Tipo de letra del texto"), then it shows a radio button menu list with all fonts availables that fills all the screen (in my 800x600) and not shows all the fonts.

When the toolbar is big enought, it shows a font combo box where I can see and select any of all the fonts that I have.
Does Qt have special handles for the actions in the ">>" part or it is done automatically?

  • Jtamate It shows in the stdout the message QLayout: Attemptin to add QLayout "" to KNote "libkcal-<number>", wich already has a layout
