Introduction
The Dolphin bug triage weeks start on October ??, 2012. We are going to triage the Dolphin bug reports listed at bugs.kde.org.
Goals of The Bug Triage Weeks
- Make sure that the bug report contains all relevant information:
- Check if the summary desribes clearly what the bug is about. This makes it much easier to find the right bug in bug lists or using Bugzilla's search.
- If the description of a bug is somewhat unclear, try to provide a better step-by-step procedure how to reproduce it, or ask the reporter for a better description. A screenshot is sometimes helpful as well.
- Assign meaningful meta data to the report, to make it easy for developers and potential new contributors to find something to work on:
- Find more meaningful components for the bugs in the 'general' component.
- If the bug is 100% reproducible with simple steps, add the 'reproduceable' keyword.
- Check if the 'Version' is really the latest version that the bug has been reported for/can be reproduced with.
- Close reports that are obsolete, and reassign bugs that are no Dolphin bugs at all:
- If we are 100% sure that a bug does not exist any more, it should be closed. Always ask someone to double-check this, or maybe even better, ask the reporter if he/she still can reproduce the bug and put the bug into the "needs reporter feedback" section below. If there is no response after one month, the report should be closed.
- If a report looks more like a wish than like a bug, the severity should be changed to 'wishlist'.
- If a bug report is valid, but it is not a Dolphin bug (this is sometimes not easy to decide, even for the developers), it should be reassigned to the correct product.
Some Basic Principles
- Be friendly and respectful when you add comments. If there are inappropriate comments in the bug report, respond in a matter-of-fact way or do not respond at all. You can ask people to respect KDE's Code of Conduct and provide a link.
- Read the bug report carefully. It's very easy to miss an important detail which is essential to understand or to reproduce the bug.
- Some bugs may not be reproducible on every installation of KDE. Thus we use a 4-eye principle, having at least 2 triagers look at the bugs before we make any serious changes in the bug reports themselves.
- You should be working with KDE 4.9.2 or later for testing these bugs. If you add a comment to the bug report and say if you can reproduce the bug or not, be sure to list the exact version and if it is a source build or which distro you are using.
- Some more information on how to mark bugs can be found on this page.
- If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the forum.
Details
How to Get Started
- Sign in in the Sign-in section of this page.
- Select a batch of bugs from the Division of Labour section below and put your name next to it to show that you are working on it. When you have completed all the bugs in that section, please mark it as 'done'.
- For each bug, try and reproduce it as described in the report. Then list it in the appropriate section below. If you wish to close or mark as duplicate a bug, please list it here even if you have the bugzilla permissions to do so, in order to get a second opinion from another triager. This will help to reduce the number of incorrect actions taken on bugs.
Keep this page updated!
When you have triaged a bug, add it to one of the sections at the bottom of this page and give a brief summary of what you have found out/what needs to be changed in the report.
| Tip |
|---|
| Please be sure to sign every bug or comment you add to this page with your nickname. You can use the wiki markup ~~~ to insert your wiki username or another signature, which can be configured in the 'User Profile' section of the Preferences, automatically. |
You can add a link to a bug report easily: 'two curly open brackets' Bug |123456 'two curly closing brackets' becomes bug #123456.
After adding triaged bugs on this page, you should keep an eye on their bugzilla status. Add yourself to the CC field of the report to be informed about updates. When a bug report is closed, it should be updated on this page. You can do this with the tag <s>...</s>
Sign-in
Before you start triaging, list your name (or the nickname you use in the forum/on IRC) and the KDE version you are using (including the distro) or the git branch here.

Division of Labour
Please choose a batch that is not already taken and then query bugs.kde.org for all bugs in that batch. Please add your name/nickname to the table below to claim a batch and to avoid duplication of effort. All batches contained 5 bugs at the time when this list was created. The number of bugs in a batch may change if bugs are closed, reopened, or reassigned between different products. The last batch also grows when new reports are opened.
Bugs excluding crashes
Crashes
For many of the crashes, the most useful information would be a reliable way to reproduce them. In particular, we have many reports about crashes in QApplicationPrivate::notify_helper(), where the backtrace does not provide much information, and what's worse, it's unclear if they have the same root cause or not. One crash with that backtrace has been fixed some time ago (bug #301056)
Completed Bugs
Add the bug reports that you have triaged to the various sections below. This makes sure that someone can double-check your work, and someone can make the actual changes in the bug report for those who do not have Bugzilla permissions yet..
Please note that this is a layout designed to reduce the number of edit conflicts on this page. Each section is its own subpage. The best way to work with this is to enable section editing by going to "My preferences" > "editing" > "Enable section editing via [edit] links". When you click edit you will automatically edit the subpage.
Bugs needing Version Field changed
If the bug report's version field is not up to date, put it here.
Reproducible bugs
This section is for reports which contain step-by-step instructions that make the bug 100% reproduceable.
-
bug #158264 - Easily reproducable. It was supposedly fixed in SC 4.7, but only one specific case was corrected. So "Version Fixed In: 4.7.0" is incorrect. Also, the version needs updated to 4.9.2 (what I reproduced it on). Bryan C. (talk) done. freininghaus (talk)
-
bug #159859 - This bug still exists. I did, however, note a semi-workaround in my comment. Bryan C. (talk) keyword+version updated freininghaus (talk)

bug #160157 - According to comments this was fixed since at least 4.5.2. I can confirm that it isn't an issue in 4.9.2. Another problem that was brought up in the comments ("intersecting tags") does exist. Does this need it's own report? Bryan C. (talk) I've just reassigned to Nepomuk for the remaining problem. freininghaus (talk) 06:45, 30 October 2012 (UTC)
-

- bug #276520 — Gallaecio (talk) 07:36, 30 October 2012 (UTC)
- bug #266190 - Create new->Folder is disabled when searching (or in any nepomuk folder). When searching select today in the filter and if you right click too fast, the create folder menu might be enabled, it will show a dialog with very large width, because it includes the nepomuk query string as the folder name. It could be because of the large width that the dialog gets corrupted, but for me it works. grigoriadis (talk) 21:40, 30 October 2012 (UTC)

DUPLICATE bugs
If a bug looks like a duplicate of another one, put it here.
INVALID bugs
A bug is INVALID if it describes desired behavior, or something that isn't a bug.
Waiting for feedback
Sometimes, we need the reporter's feedback, e.g., if we are not sure what the bug is, or if we want confirmation that a bug does not exist any more. If there is no reply after one month, the report should be closed.
- bug #308520 - Tried to reproduce the bug, but I could not. Jta (talk) 11:32, 27 October 2012 (BST)
- bug #231383 — The steps to reproduce the bug included setting options not found in Dolphin 2.1. Requested the author of the report to confirm whether the bug still applies or not. Gallaecio (talk) 12:21, 27 October 2012 (BST)
- bug #273551 - I can't reproduce this, but I'm not sure I'm doing it correctly. Errors don't display in the status bar as the reporter mentioned. I left a comment asking if he can reproduce this on 4.9.2 or not. Bryan C. (talk) 17:32, 28 October 2012 (UTC)
- bug #270178 — I asked for some details, but someone else with more experience with SSH might be able to understand the issue right aways and properly triage it. Gallaecio (talk) 07:27, 30 October 2012 (UTC)
- bug #279009 — Asked the original author for a series of steps to reproduce the issue. He did say in his original report that he was not able to find out such steps, so I hope things have changed since then. Gallaecio (talk) 07:40, 30 October 2012 (UTC)
- bug #276445 - Can't find the options that the reporter mentions. Asked him to confirm if the bug still exists. Bryan C. (talk) 01:33, 31 October 2012 (UTC)
- bug #274039 - Bryan C. (talk) 01:45, 31 October 2012 (UTC)
- bug #280050 — The original reporter stated that he would try again with OpenSUSE 12.2 — which is out already — after Jekyll Wu told him he could not reproduce it in KDE 4.7. I added a message to encourage the reporter to do so. Gallaecio (talk) 16:49, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
- bug #284316 — I provided the simple steps I followed to reproduce the bug, which I could not do. I expect the original reporter to confirm whether he can or cannot reproduce the issue with those steps, since maybe he is using different steps that do lead to the bug. Gallaecio (talk) 19:04, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
- bug #295031 - I wasn't able to reproduce this, but one of the commenters mentioned that he was using a video with the x264 codec. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it or not. Bryan C. (talk) 00:16, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

Bugs which are not Dolphin bugs
If a bug report is about a bug in another KDE or non-KDE project, put it here.
- bug #159337 - It has been determined that this is a bug in Qt (fixed in Qt 5). It's reproducable in 4.9.2, but I put it here since it's not a Dolphin bug. Bryan C. (talk)
- bug #192040 - Bryan C. (talk) 02:13, 27 October 2012 (BST)
- bug #193298 - Bryan C. (talk) 03:40, 27 October 2012 (BST)

Bugs that you can't do
If you would prefer that someone else has a look at a bug report put it here. Note: if you cannot test something due to missing hardware or software prerequisites, put it in the "Bugs that need particular setups/equipment to test" section.
- bug #134960 — It’s not clear whether or not the bug is Dolphin’s or other product’s. Gallaecio (talk) 20:38, 26 October 2012 (BST)
- bug #262850 - The report is on Polish and the translation isn't the greatest. It also kind of sounds like this issue is with Nepomuk, which I'm not familiar with. If someone who knows Polish and/or is experienced with Nepomuk would look at this, that'd be great. Bryan C. (talk) 04:13, 27 October 2012 (BST)
- bug #206812 -- Do not have smb shared folders.
- bug #240826 -- Not sure what is the expected behavior. I tested it in Kubuntu and by running alsamixer and changing the PCM, the preview volume changes. KMixer also changes when changing the PCM. I also checked the source and found that dolphin uses Phonon::MediaObject and Phonon::AudioOutput with category set to Phonon::MusicCategory. grigoriadis (talk) 00:14, 28 October 2012 (GMT +03:00)
- bug #262556 - I can't figure out how to search by tags at all. Again, not that familiar with Nepomuk. Bryan C. (talk) 04:54, 28 October 2012 (UTC)
- bug #281844 - Requires an MP3 file. (I don't use proprietary software.) Bryan C. (talk) 02:21, 31 October 2012 (UTC)
- bug #291030 -- Couldn't create a huge enough file replacement dialog to verfy the bug --Marco (talk) 13:38, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
Wishes
If a bug report is not about a bug, but about a feature request, its severity should be changed to "wishlist".
-
bug #143527 — Gallaecio (talk) 22:23, 26 October 2012 (BST) KIO issue. freininghaus (talk) 18:06, 6 November 2012 (UTC)

bug #154206 — I think it should be considered a wish, but I would perfectly understand if someone else did not. It should also be marked as reproduceable. Gallaecio (talk) 21:03, 26 October 2012 (BST) Yes, I agree that it's a wish. Changed the severity. freininghaus (talk) 17:41, 6 November 2012 (UTC)

bug #186880 — I have 1920×1080 resolution and I do not find it that inconvenient. Also, you do not need a mouse to interact with that dialog (just write and hit Enter). Should be marked as reproduceable. Gallaecio (talk) 22:22, 26 October 2012 (BST) Agreed, marked as wish. freininghaus (talk) 17:49, 6 November 2012 (UTC)
- bug #218474 — Judging from comment #4. Gallaecio (talk) 10:37, 27 October 2012 (BST)

bug #289448 --Marco (talk) 12:04, 3 November 2012 (UTC) The timeout has actually been increased some time ago, so I closed this. freininghaus (talk) 17:54, 6 November 2012 (UTC)

bug #266307 --grigoriadis (talk) 23:19, 3 November 2012 (UTC) Severity changed to wishlist. freininghaus (talk) 17:56, 6 November 2012 (UTC)
