[edit] Summer of Code Projects

KDE is proud to have participated in the Google Summer of Code programs in the years 2005, 2006 and 2007 and 2008. We have mentored a total of 88 projects and students, from various parts of the world, who have worked in many parts of KDE.

[edit] Contacts

To find developers, we recommend the mailing list of the KDE project you chose. Failing that, the kde-devel@kde.org mailing list is a general way for new developers to communicate. The KDE Summer of Code mentors and administrators can be reached by the generic email address kde-soc-mentor@kde.org.

Many projects have IRC channels on Freenode (irc.freenode.net). We recommend the following generic one #kde-devel.

[edit] Season of Usability

OpenUsability adopted Google's idea of student projects and applied it to usability, user interface design and interaction design. The first Season of Usability was in 2007 with two KDE usability projects - Basket and Okular.

In 2008, Season of Usability offers two student projects to continue the work on the KDE4 Human Interface Guidelines and Design Patterns, and one student project about tool interaction for KOffice.

[edit] Participate as a Student

If you are a student of usability, user-interface design, and interaction design or related subjects:

  • Apply for a project by sending your application including a short CV and why you chose this project to students at openusability org.
  • Application Deadline: 2008, April 14
  • Project Timeframe: 2008 May - July/August
  • Qualification: All projects require experience in interface and interaction design and/or usability analysis methods. However, this is meant to be a learning experience, so don't worry as long as you understand the basics in design and usability.
