[edit] Introduction

KDE Pim Krush Day 2 will take place on Sunday, June 8th 2008. We will coordinate the day from #kde-bugs on irc.freenode.net, so if you are not already in that channel, please join it.

The aim of the Krush day is to discover as many bugs as possible in KDE PIM applications so they can be fixed before the final release of KDE 4.1.

[edit] Requirements

You don't need any programming experience to help out with Krush Days, but you will need a recent svn trunk version of KDE. Information on setting up trunk KDE 4 can be found here.

[edit] Workflow

First select an application you would like to test. Then, go to that application's section below on this page. Add your name and svn revision number to the list of testers for that app. List any bugs you find below on this page. Make sure you check if someone has already listed the same bug before you list it. If the bug is already listed, add a comment below it saying you have reproduced it and any detailing any other information you might have. If you have a backtrace for a crash, please put that backtrace in a pastebin and place a link to it in your description of the bug.

Do NOT use rafb.net/paste as it expires after 24 hours. Use pastebin.ca instead.

To test an application effectively, you should first try and do everyday tasks with it. Then try doing more obscure things. Also, you can pick a feature that you don't normally use and try it out. Remember that if there is more than one way to accomplish a given task, test all the ways, and make sure they all work properly. If you are very familiar with an app, try testing for issues you've had with it in the past, in case they are still present or have regressed.

Some application specific tips are given in the sections below.

• Crash when clicking on the "Inbox" folder of my IMAP account just after creating it with the first start wizard. Backtrace at http://pastebin.ca/1028716. Notice that the server uses Maildir, not mbox. After a restart of kmail it works now. Earthwings
• The first start wizard seems to have added the SMTP server twice. Earthwings
• Per default I don't get any new mail notification: kmail.notifyrc has Actions=None for new mail and the systray is not show per default. Earthwings
• Clicking on the "Searches" folder brings up the standard "Welcome to kmail" widget. It would be nice if one would be directed to the "Find Messages" widget in some way. Earthwings
• I think the "Search" button should be on top in the "Find Messages" widget, not the "Stop" button. Maybe both could even be the same button, they should be mutually disabled anyway? Earthwings
• "Switch Application Language" is listed in the Help menu. I think it should be in Tools, if it should be there at all. Earthwings
  • FiNeX it is the default position for all KDE4 apps.
• "Switch Application Language" should resize when adding a new fallback language, or start with a larger default size. Earthwings

• Kleopatra Self Test Result shows a message with tags (para, application, icode) for the "GpGConf (Configuration) installation" item in the "Proposed Corrective Action" section. Earthwings

• Kleopatra startup height is too small. Earthwings

• Kleopatra fails to import my S/MIME X.509 Certificate: "An error occurred while trying to import the certificate /home/kde-devel/thawte.p12: Decryption failed". I can import that certificate in Thunderbird. Earthwings

• Kleopatra crashes when clicking on "Settings", "Configure Kleopatra", backtrace at http://pastebin.ca/1028744. Earthwings

• I can select my OpenGPG key for encryption, but not for signing: It's not listed for selection. Kleopatra says it's fine for signing, and I use it in other applications for signing. Earthwings

• "Check Messsages" does not seem to trigger the new messages event: The number of mails in the systray increases, but I don't get a popup. Clicking on a folder that has new messages (IMAP) triggers the event though. Earthwings

• New message : View > All fields. Comboboxes don't show immediately. They show up on next "new message". -- gemegik

• In custom searches, next/previous toolbar buttons not working. -- gemegik

• If I select Tools->Anti-Spam wizard, the bottom line of text in the dialog that opens (starting "Sorry, no spam detection tools...") does not wrap, so at the default dialog size, it gets cut off after the word "found".   • This is NOT a knode bug but either an oxygen or a Qt one. Lemma

• Selecting "Start External Editor" launches the editor but knode doesn't detect when the external editor is being closed (I'm using kwrite). There doesn't seem to be an automatic way of getting back the edited text into the knode composer either. Lemma FIXED

• On clicking the "Kill external editor" button the editor disappears but the internal editor displays previously coloured text (eg. for quoted parts) using the standard text colour. Proper colours are restored on focusing the internal editor. Lemma

  • the patch also handles destroying the composer (by closing the window while the external editor ist still running) though my solution seems a little clumsy. Lemma

• The main toolbar has a right-arrow for "Next Unread Article" and an arrow pointing left for "Next Unread Thread". This is pretty confusing (especially in standard config they point at each other). Lemma
• When composing a new post or posting a followup I get two buttons to toggle in the toolbar, one being "Send News Article" the other being "Send Email" but they can't be toggled (can be clicked though). It would be better to not show or disable buttons that don't do anything. Lemma
• knode crashes when deleting a post from within the composer (eg. a draft), backtrace. Lemma FIXED
• if printing with fancy headers there's a strange visual error on the right border of the header, kind of like an extra "white line", printed pdf, Lemma
• if selecting multiple posts it isn't clear which of the posts gets printed (I got the impression all of the selected ones were printed but it seems to print the one shown in the preview pane), Lemma
• In "Standard headers" or "all headers" mode the header name seems to stick too close to the header content. This might be a style decision but I would have expected a whitespace in between, screenshot, Lemma
• I'm not sure which rules are used to layout the status bars but it looks strange (screenshot) and if too small truncates information it would have had enough place to show (screenshot), Lemma
• The column for "unread messages" gets its header truncated on showing it even if there would be plenty of space to fully show it, screenshot, Lemma
• When clicking "Next Unread Thread" if there is no such thread the folder is switched to "Local Folders". I would have expected the "Next Unread Thread" button to be disabled in such a case. Lemma
  • Actually it's possible to phrase this more general: If you click on the "Next Unread Thread" toolbar button and if there is no next unread thread in the current account, the folder view switches to the next top-level folder, be that the next account or "Local Folders", Lemma
• "Watch Thread" and "Ignore Thread" are not context sensitive. If you selected a watched or ignored thread and want to disable watching or ignoring you have to select "Watch Thread" or "Ignore Thread" again. This is unintuitive and would be better made a context-sensitive toggle. Lemma
  • I guess this is actually meant like that as it's based on scoring the articles (setting lowest score/settings highest score). Lemma
• Revoked messages appear in the article list but can not be viewed. screenshot, Lemma
  • This seems to only hold true for messages whose header has been loaded but body hasn't. Lemma
• Searching messages using the search dialog shows found messages in the main window's article view. On closing the search dialog this list is reset to show the folder's messages. This makes it hard to browse through found articles on small form-factor display. Lemma
• The toggle action View -> Show/Hide Threads changes its label additionally to its toggle state. I think stylewise it should be one or the other but not both (I'd opt for changing the toggle state and not changing the label). Lemma

• In the settings there's various descriptive text to help with certain placeholders that the user can use. Some of them are verbatim and some are shown as a tooltip (if the user presses Shift-F1). • Bug: Add 1 feed to an already existing folder in akregator (I used http://arstechnica.com/index.rssx). This should work fine. Try to add a second feed to the same folder (I used http://www.osnews.com/files/recent.xml). This should not work. Try to add the second feed again and akregator should crash. • Bug: when loading the full site in the preview pane (advanced option) and scolling and article with the mouse whell, scroll goes out of page boundaries and the preview pane only displays garbage then. -- gemegik

• Bug: When I hide the 'total' and 'not read' columns from the feed list, they reappear at next startup. -- gemegik

• Bug: Feed favicons don't stay between sessions, they only appear when fetching the feed. -- gemegik

• Regression: In 3.5, akregator printed "$feedname ($unread_count)" as the feed title if the 'total' and 'not read' columns were hidden. -- gemegik

• Regression: Doesn't follow the konqueror preferences for smooth scrolling (active in akregator while disabled in konqui). -- gemegik

• Krop Settings/Archive/"limit feed archive size to..." doesn't accept values > 99 (same thing for "delete articles older than...")

• Krop Settings/Archive/"keep all articles" and "disable archiving" buttons is always unchecked when you open settings.

• Krop Settings/Advanced : the "Configure" button is always greyed whatever choice you make.

• Med When a new feed entry is received, it it contains an apostrophe in the title, it will be displayed as &apos;. It works when marking a message as unread too. If i restart akregator, the apostrophes are displayed correctly. Images that illustrate the problem receiving a new entry and after having clicked on this entry.

• When opening an article in a new tab, ctrl+w does not close it. Med

• When opening an article in a tab, if the page contains an error, a small red bug is displayed at the bottom of the screen. Unfortunately they are not removed when a tab is closed. I think the expected behaviour would be that the bug is present only in relation to the active tab (therefore no bug would be displayed if there are bugs in inactive pages). Med

• When sorting articles after Date, new articles of are showing between Yesterday and Thursday, see here. -- andy_

• When toggling View Modes ( Normal -> Combined -> Normal ) the feed preview list becomes empty. However does change back on clicking on another feed and returning back. See here -- FilledVoid

• Marking an article with a shortcut does not work (ctrl+I for important, ctrl+U for unread, etc.). It works when right-clicking and selecting in the menu though. Med

• (Usability) When opening, "Feeds" is very narrow compared to the other fields, or at least it is narrow enough that I can't see what any of the default feeds are. I figure this is probably the most important field, but at first I didn't realize it was something I wanted to be reading.Blauzahl

• FiNeX On the calendar views (month/day/week) after selecting a range, if you start type a new event is created. You can do this only one time, after you have to close/restart korganizer for repeat this behaviour.

• Jtamate Create a new note, then in preferences make it rich text, when the toolbar in the bottom of the note is not big enought to have all the icons, press in the >> icon, then in "text font" ("Tipo de letra del texto"), then it shows a radio button menu list with all fonts availables that fills all the screen (in my 800x600) and not shows all the fonts.
  

When the toolbar is big enought, it shows a font combo box where I can see and select any of all the fonts that I have.
Does Qt have special handles for the actions in the ">>" part or it is done automatically?
